Happy Tuesday! Matthew 20:26-28 are the verses for today: “…whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave– just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” As followers of Christ, serving should be second nature. Lots of opportunities are available in your local church to serve–nursery, children’s church, greeters, “plate passers,” groundskeepers, worship team, and many others need people to participate.
Let me say this though; service should not be limited to within your church walls. Look around when you go out and: pick up the dropped item, reach the high item on the shelf, push someone’s cart back to the cart catcher, let someone in front of you, converse with the cashier, pay for someone’s groceries (or meal in the drive-thru). Endless possibilities!
And of course you know how to serve in your own home. Those day-to-day activities may seem mundane, and you may feel unappreciated. I completely understand that; however, our service is to be done for God, not for the praises of men (I have to keep telling myself that because I live in a house full of men!) So, fold that laundry, pick up those toys, wash the dishes, vacuum the house, sweep the floor, cook that meal, all for Jesus. Remember, what is unseen or unappreciated in service to others is both seen and appreciated by God. Be a humble servant for God today and everyday!
Here’s an easy recipe to “serve” while “serving” your family tonight. Smothered pork chops from South Your Mouth will make everyone in your family happy–you will be happy because they are easy to fix, and your family will be happy because these taste yummy! Mash some potatoes or boil some rice, and slice up some fresh fruit for a quick and wholesome meal. I hope you enjoy your “service” tonight!
You’ve got to admit–that looks delish, doesn’t it?
